Attractions
OCHO RIOS is a popular tourist area with cruise ships in Jamaica. Ocho Rios was a sleepy little fishing town and now serves as one of the fastest growing towns in Jamaica.The Spaniards called Ocho Rios "Las Chorreras," which means "the waterfalls," and later became known as Ocho Rios, which translated is "eight rivers". Today there are four rivers around Ocho Rios: Cave River, Roaring River, Turtle River, and the most famous- Dunns River.
DUNNS RIVER FALLS is 695 feet long and falls from the top to the bottom of Jamaica and flows swiftly to the Caribbean Sea. The falls regenerate from deposits of travartine rock that are formed from spring activity in limestone caves. Experienced guides form a human chain to climb the falls making it one of the top tourist attractions in Jamaica.
DOLPHIN COVE AT TREASURE REEF is the number one marine attraction in Jamaica. This natural cove, located on the North Coast, has glass bottom kayahs and a Jungle Trail Walk to view exotic birds and iguanas. Most visitors go to Dolphin Cove to swim with dolphins, sharks and stingrays.
ISLAND VILLAGE at Ocho Rios is a shopping mall with 35 shops selling clothing, jewelry, rum, postcards, t-shirts and Bob Marley Memorabilia. There are also restaurants, bars, coffee shops, ice cream shops, cyber shops and video games.
Located next to the cruise ship docks in Ocho Rios,one of the most popular restaurants and souvenir shops, is JIMMY BUFFETT'S MARGARITAVILLE. Find Jimmy Buffett t-shirts, clothing, and other souvenirs then walk next door to enjoy a tropical drink or slide down the 110 foot slide on the rooftop of Margaritaville.
KINGSTON is the capital and largest city of Jamaica. The city is divided in two sections, the old Kingston Downtown and the New Kingston. Located in the middle of Kingston is HOPE BOTANICAL GARDEN filled with beautiful lawns and and tranquill gardens. Founded in 1881, the gardens are a rainbow of red, yellow, purple and white flowers designed for your relaxation and enjoyment.
PORT ROYAL is the place to relive Jamaica's colorful past. Known as the "Wickedest City in Chritiandom," Henry Morgan and his fellow pirates roamed the Caribbbean and landed at the western tip of Palisadoes Peninsula or Port Royal.
Other attractions near Port Royal are the GIDDY HOUSE, an old artillery storehouse; FORT CHARLES which is now a maritime museum and ST. PETERS CHURCH.
BOB MARLEY MUSEUM is dedicated to the late, great Bob Marley. His band, Bob Marley and Wailers, had several hits like "I Shot The Sheriff" and "One Love." Bob Marley was the first Jamaican to achieve international superstar status and was instrumental in the Rastafari Movement. He was a singer, songwriter and musician and lived from 1945 to 1981.
SPANISH TOWN is located on the western part of Kingston and was the Spanish capital from 1662 to 1872. Landmarks are OLD KINGSHOUSE, the first governors mansion and OLD HOUSE ASSEMBLY where the first lawmakers met.
DEVON HOUSE was built by George Stiebel, Jamaica's first black millionaire. This beautiful 53 acre mansion was a mixture of Creole and Georgian styles was built in 1881.George Stiebel was a successful contractor who bought the land from St. Andrews Parish.
MONTEGO BAY is the second largest city in Jamaica and is known for FREE PORT, one of the major cruise ship docks in Jamaica with a deep water harbor. Montego Bay has duty free shopping at DOCTORS CAVE and there you will find souvenir shops, gourmet coffee shops and internet cafes. DOCTORS CAVE BEACH is one of Jamaica's beautiful beaches located nearby.
Dining
BLOOMFILD'S GREAT HOUSE in Mandeville serves international cuisine in the setting of an upscale neighborhood. Visitors can appreciate the restored historical home while enjoying chicken Cordon Bleu, or roasted oxtail with beans.
JAKE'S, located in the South Coast region, provides an eccentric yet fulfilling dining experience. Here, one can expect to find traditional Jamaican fare on the menu such as pepper-pot soup, steamed fish in coconut cream sauce, and various jerk-seasoned meats.
JASMINE, within the Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall resort in Montego Bay, provides the perfect setting for an intimate dinner. Notable items include Jamaican pumpkin and carrot soup, lobster chili, and Asian spring rolls.
Reservations are required at LE PAPILLON RESTAURANT and the CAVIAR BAR at the Royal Plantation in Ochos Rios. It is part of the Sandals chain, and flaunted as their most prestigious dining option. The restaurant specializes in Continental cuisine, with main courses ranging from a rock lobster spring roll to a duck confit with tamarind glaze and apple chutney.
MILLE FLEURS, a restaurant in Port Antonio’s Hotel Mocking Bird Hill is another excellent place to enjoy traditional Carribean fare in a charming, new age setting. Specialties include coconut and garlic soup, and fish with spicy mango shrimp sauce.
NIKKITA'S serves Jamaican cuisine with a modern twist. A stylish joint located in the heart of Montego Bay, Nikkita’s offers such ambitious courses as a baked lobster, removed from the shell and mixed with diced scallops, shrimp, and crabmeat, then returned to the shell.
NORMA'S has three notable locations in Jamaica – Norma’s at the Marina (Port Antonio Marina), Norma’s on the Beach at Sea Splash (Negril’s Sea Splash Resort), and Norma’s on the Terrace (Kingston’s Devon House). As a creation of businesswoman Norma Shirley, the menu reflects a passion for her native Jamaican cuisine. Redbones the Blues Café in Kingston serves the only food in the area that rivals Norma’s on the Terrace – also serving Jamaican dishes “with a twist.” Diners enjoy live jazz music, along with a cozy atmosphere laden with pictures of that genre’s great performers.
STRAWBERRY HILL is located in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains. The dining area is a series of 19th century style pavilions, verandas, and catwalks. Although the menu – consisting primarily of “new Jamaican cuisine” – changes with the season, it is likely to include delectable options such as grilled shrimp with fresh cilantro, or grilled fish with jerk mango and sweet pepper salsa.
For superb Jamaican jerk dishes and fresh seafood in Montego Bay, one should stop by the SUGAR MILL RESTAURANT. In addition to the exquisite items on the menu, the atmosphere – set by Sugar Mill’s location near the ruin of a water wheel for a sugar plantation – is lovely.
Another place for excellent continental and Caribbean fare in Ocho Rios is THE DINNER TERRACE at the Jamaica Inn. It provides the most upscale dining experience available in its area.



Rose Hall is the plantation home where Annie Palmer known as the "white witch" once lived. The Great House is surrounded by beautiful gardens and landscaped lawns along with 18th century decor inside.
A sculptural fountain and breathtaking plant life adorn the outside of the Half Moon Shopping Village. Kingston is the capital and largest city in Jamaica and home to colorful Hope Botanical Gardens. The view from up top isn't bad either. This tropical beach picture looks like it is straight out of a Corona Beer commercial. There are so many wonderful beaches and resort areas in Jamaica to relax, swim or have a drink.

Weather
Although Jamaica lies in a tropical climate zone, with generally hot and humid weather throughout the year, its higher inland regions are more temperate. The Liguanea Plain and the Pedro Plains, among other regions around Jamaica’s south coast, are relatively dry rain-shadow areas. Since Jamaica is in the hurricane belt of the Atlantic Ocean, the island occasionally experiences significant storm damage.
